Castors or Casters – What’s the difference?

In the UK the word “Castor” or “Castors” can be defined as  ”a wheel fitted inside a fork (housing) usually mounted to the bottom of large or heavy equipment (the vehicle) to enable the vehicle to allow or improve manoeuvrability”. 

So, what is a “Caster” or Casters”?  - Simply put, the American spelling of Castor or Castors!

You may be surprised to know that on Google UK, the search term “Castors” is search for 12100 times per month, whereas “Casters” is search for 22200 per month.  As you can see it is a common error in the UK to use the American version Caster or Casters.

So whether Castors or Casters, Rubber Castors, Rubber Casters, Nylon Castors, Nylon Castors – they are all the same………..
